OUR SOLUTION TO HOMELESSNESS

The First Objective

As described on our "The Problem" page, numerous issues must be addressed to solve the problem of homelessness. Ultimately, individuals and families become homeless as a result of financial hardship, whereby, for various reasons, they can no longer afford to own or rent a traditional house or apartment. People who find themselves in a situation where they have lost or may soon lose a stable place to live need assistance as soon as possible. This is where the Red Geranium Project can help.

Our first objective is to provide those in need of housing with a safe, stable, temporary or transitional place to live. To accomplish this we purchase new or good condition used, self-contained motor homes (RVs), and provide them to qualifying* families and individuals in need. We then work with local municipalities, charitable organizations, and churches to locate legally-sanctioned, safe parking areas where our clients can live in their new "home." This critical first step provides our clients with much needed personal space and a level of security.

Next steps

We then work to address what may have caused our client to become homeless in the first place. To that end, our next step is to assess what further assistance or guidance we might be able to provide to our clients to help them attain more stable, permanent housing. This may mean simply providing adequate time and encouragement so that a person or family can get back on their feet, assisting our clients in obtaining employment, or helping them identify a new path toward self-sufficiency.

Beyond these steps we provide referrals to additional resources to help our clients with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.
